The Silver Palace MC, explained
Hugin is one of the two versions of the Detective. Where the raven names come from, and what picking the male or female MC changes.
S tier (Build around them)
Thus Spake the Raven leaves a Gravity Field that applies Time Dilation, and no other carry provides its own crowd control. Occam's Razor turns parries into Gravity Overdrive, so defending feeds the loop rather than interrupting it. Hugin's damage sits in the 4th combo hit at 288% by Lv.20, the Lv.2 charged attack and the Tactical Assault, which makes him the charged-attack and swap-in build of the two Detectives. He is guaranteed on every account, so every other S-tier pick stays a choice rather than a requirement.

"Let's cut to the chase. Can't have the witness dying before the testimony is taken." Hugin is the male build of the Detective, the protagonist of Silver Palace, carrying the banner 'The Raven's Beak' (the female build carries 'The Raven's Claws'). Rational, reliable, clear-minded, and efficient, he is gifted with powerful skills of observation and analysis, and driven by loss he searches for the truth behind the death of a loved one. After leaving Silvernia for three years following a disaster, he has returned to a city where conspiracies fester beneath the facade of peace, and where a fragile justice system and opaque noble politics have set the stage for those who seek the truth. This is the golden age of detectives. A preview build's Character Identity screen confirms Hugin as a Gravitas character with a Striker DPS Combat Style and Hero identity. His kit: Basic Attack 'Double-Edged Sword: Truth & Deceit' is a 5-hit Gravitas combo that builds Ammunition and can chain into Skill 'Raven Slayer', Ultimate 'Thus Spake the Raven' leaps into a powerful attack that creates a time-dilating Gravity Field, Tactical Assault '"One-Half" of a Retaliation' is a flurry switch-in attack that builds Gravity Overdrive, and Passive 'Occam's Razor' stacks Ultimate DMG off Raven Slayer's Charged Shot and grants Gravity Overdrive on a successful parry. See Munin for the shared protagonist profile.
In the Dichotomy Beta story, Hugin is the same returning protagonist covered in the Detective profile: branded the 'queen slayer' after the Evermore disaster, back in Silvernia to trace the marked bullet that killed his sibling, and pulled by Chief Inspector Lorin into the Nameless Ashes case that becomes the Cinderellas. The beta follows a single Detective, and the male and female builds share this story. See the Munin profile and the Silver Palace story recap for the full account.

How to play Hugin
The protagonist, and the roster's only Gravitas unit. The loop mixes sword combos with gunshots, banking Ammunition and Gravity Overdrive toward a Charged Shot that also strengthens the Ultimate.
- 1
Run the 5-hit Basic Attack combo
The 3rd and 5th hits grant Ammunition, and parrying does not break the chain
- 2
Chain the 5th hit into Raven Slayer
Spends Ammunition for gunshots and accumulates Gravity Overdrive
- 3
Alternate Raven Slayer shots back into the Basic Attack combo
The 2nd shot chains into the 5th hit, which is what keeps the loop unbroken
- 4
Release the Charged Shot at full Gravity Overdrive
The Passive stacks Ultimate DMG off it, so this is what sets up the Ultimate
- 5
Press Ultimate for the Gravity Field
Time Dilation slows enemies inside it, which is how the long combos land without targets escaping
Best Implements for Hugin
Implement stats are fixed rather than rolled, so a set is a decision you make once. The short answer is Embers and Flame. See the equipment guide for how the four slots and the Epiphany fit together.
Embers and Flame
BestIncreases the holder's CRIT Rate by 15%. When the character's CRIT Rate exceeds 70%, each Ultimate use also increases their Basic Attack DMG by 15% for 16s.
Why Hugin: The loop alternates sword combos with gunshots, so Basic Attack DMG is a large share of the total. Clear 70% CRIT Rate and every Ultimate adds 15% to it for 16 seconds, which lines up with the Gravity Field window.
The Hunter and the Hunted
AlternativeIncreases the holder's ATK by 12%. When the character's Ultimate Charge Efficiency exceeds 150%, their ATK is further increased by 12%.
Why Hugin: Flat ATK scales the whole kit evenly, including the Charged Shot that strengthens the Ultimate, if crit is already handled by Motive and Epiphany.
Best Epiphany for Hugin
One Epiphany per character, and the effect never changes: duplicates raise the substats and leave the effect text alone. The short answer is The Morgue Street Murder. See the equipment guide for where the slot sits, or all 30 Epiphanies.
Increases the holder's Gravitas DMG by 15%. They gain Black Cat upon using their Tactical Assault, increasing their Gravitas DMG by 13% for 16s. With every 3 skills used, they gain 1 stack of Crimson Mask, lasting 16s and stacking up to 2 times. When using their Ultimate, Black Cat and Crimson Mask stacks both increase that instance of Ultimate DMG by 8%, up to a maximum of 24%.
Why Hugin: The only Gravitas title in the game, and the Detective is the only Gravitas unit on the roster. Black Cat triggers on Tactical Assault, Crimson Mask stacks every third skill, and both feed the Ultimate that the Charged Shot already strengthens.
The Sword in Silvernia
Alternative
DMG Bonus +18%Increases the holder's CRIT Rate by 15%. When their CRIT Rate exceeds 50%, each 1% over 50% grants 2.5% CRIT DMG, up to a maximum of 125%.
Why Hugin: If the Gravity Overdrive loop is already at 50% CRIT Rate from Motive and Implements, this converts the surplus into up to 125% CRIT DMG across both the sword combo and the gunshots.
The Destined Death
Alternative
DMG Bonus +15%Increases the holder's CRIT Rate by 15%. When their CRIT Rate exceeds 50%, each 1% over 50% grants 0.8% ATK, up to a maximum of 40%.
Why Hugin: The Lv.20 version of the surplus-CRIT-Rate clause The Sword in Silvernia runs at Lv.60, paying ATK rather than CRIT DMG. The Gravity Overdrive loop already sits at the 50% CRIT Rate both of them read from, so it converts on day one of an account.

Crow Flies the Nest
Increases the Detective's ATK by 13% for 16s when their skills hit an enemy, stacking up to 2 times.
Falling From the Heights

Defying Gravity
Increases the Detective's Ultimate DMG by 30%, and Gravity Field's duration to 5s.
True Reflections
After the Detective uses their Tactical Assault, they increase the ATK of all characters on the team by 20% for 40s.
Thought and Memory
The first enemy hit by the Detective's Charged Skill takes +45% DMG.
Potential Break Costs
Each Potential Break raises Hugin's level cap to the level shown. Taking Hugin through all 6 costs 134,400 Ounce plus Rectified Darkmatter Concentrate, Gold Mistletoe, Crude Metal-Blooded Claw, Intact Metal-Blooded Claw, Rare Metal-Blooded Claw and Heirloom Metal-Blooded Claw. Hugin is Gravitas, so the Reactor Attribute material is Rectified Darkmatter Concentrate.

Team Synergies
Gravitas crit carry with self-provided enemy slow
Strengths
- The Ultimate supplies its own crowd control, which no other carry does
- Sword and gun alternation keeps the rotation varied and fluid
- Guaranteed on every account
Weaknesses
- No support on the roster is designed for Gravitas, so part of every buff is wasted
- The only Gravitas unit, so attribute resonance cannot be shared
Best partners
The Gravity Field's slow holds targets still for her spinning attacks, and both units scale on crit, so one set of crit buffs serves both.
Weaker pairings
She is the best crit buffer available to him, but her Ignis half is dead weight on a Gravitas carry. No support is built for him yet.
Pro Tip: Check the team building guide for how the four slots, attribute sharing, and the Power budget fit together.
